Happy Losar (Tibetan New Year)! Today, February, 25, is the first day of a New Year according to the Tibetan Calendar. Each year since the 1400’s, Tibetan celebrate the New Year by creating positive karma together, celebrating miracles perfromed by the historical Buddha at this time of year during his lifetime.
During the next two weeks, from February 25 through March 10 is a holy time according to the Buddhist calendar commemorating the Buddha’s performance of miracles in India. During this sacred two weeks, Buddhists assert that positive karmic actions are multiplied one hundred million times!
So, last year we began fundraising for a building for the center during this time of year. Now, we are initiating our second annual “Creating Miracles Together” fundraising drive. The goal is to create to beautiful space for studying and practicing Dharma together–with room for meditation, sacred art, classes and so forth!
Over the past one year of effort in this direction, we’ve raised almost $25,000 and have also received lots of help including beautiful architectural drawings donated to the center by Patricia Turragio; great center t-shirts which are given as gifts to donors who offer $100 or more to the building fund; donations of many other gifts for donors including Buddha statues, clay tsa tsa images from Kyable Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s house, wall hangings with images of the Bodhanath Stupa in Nepal; other donated items for our auction in October; and donations of food and traditional Tibetan song and dance for our fundraising dinner last October!
So, now during this time of increased merit with the goal of creating positive karma together to have success at building a sacred space for the center, we are again requesting that 100 people make a contribution of any size towards the building fund between February 25 – March 10. Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche often points out that all success comes from merit-from positive karma. So, we need to create positive karma together for the center to succeed in this great goal. Remember, karma is increased during this time; so by giving one dollar one creates karma like having offered one hundred million dollars, giving ten dollars is like giving one billion, giving one hundred dollars is like ten billion, and so on.
Remember, karma means action. Even if you don’t have 100% faith, if you practice giving now with a sincere motivation, then good results will inevitably come.
So, on behalf of Guhyasamaja Center, we are sincerely asking that (to benefit yourself and others) you contribute any amount-even just one dollar, ten dollars, or one hundred dollars-to the center’s building fund during these Days of Miracles.
If you’ll be attending teachings during this time period, then you can pass your donation to Lorne, Rebecca, Jeff, or Dina letting them know clearly that it’s for the building fund. Or you can mail your donation in any amount to:
P.O. Box 1511
Centreville, VA 20122
Those who donate over $100 will receive a t-shirt as a gift of appreciation from the center. And, those who donate larger amounts will receive additional gifts of appreciation from the center including tsa-tsas, statues, wall hangings, prayer wheels, and Dharma books. For the details on gifts for donors you can check on the website or email myself or Rebecca.
Please mark your donation clearly as for the building fund.
Over the coming months we be holding additional events and efforts to continue increasing our momentum towards success in creating a sacred space to benefit many people now and for many, many years to come.
