One of the vows that is usually part of taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts is not to eat at inappropriate times. This generally means not after noon (but could also include skipping breakfast). So what should we do if you take the precepts in the morning and then offer the Lama Chopa puja with tsok later in the day? Is it appropriate to taste the tsok offering?
We asked Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Losang Jampa to share his thoughts. He replied, “we can eat a little bit of tsok even if we have taken the 8 Mahayana Precepts…. we are taking a little-bit of tsok on that day not out of attachment but only for a blessing. ” So it is is appropriate to taste the tsok even if we’ve taken Precepts.
Thanks to Eric S. for asking this question!
