Wanted to let everyone know that Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche was released from the hospital today. Rinpoche had been there since friday. Rinpoche reports that he’s feeling much better than before. Last week, Rinpoche’s blood pressure was elevated and he was also retaining excess fluids in his body. Through the use of medications, these problems have been greatly improved, resulting also in an improvement in how Rinpoche is feeling. Rinpoche will need to continue taking medications and also to make some dietary changes to keep his health stable. It will likely take some time for Rinpoche to fully regain his previous level of energy.
As people sometimes like to make offerings to Rinpoche, it’s important to be aware that one should no longer offer Rinpoche items that contain high salt content, high fat content, or caffeine. These kinds of items are not good for Rinpoche’s health.
We’re not yet certain how Rinpoche’s recuperation will effect his upcoming teaching schedule. We should know more about that by tomorrow, and so a further update will be sent out then.
Many people have expressed the wish to do prayers for Rinpoche’s well-being. So, for this purpose, it would be beneficial to recite the mantra of the Medicine Buddha:
Tadyatha Om Bekandzye Bekandzye Maha Bekandzye Bekandzye Radza Samudgate Svaha.
Rinpoche also has a special connection with White Tara, and so for Rinpoche’s long life, the mantra of White Tara can be recited as well; it is:
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayur Punye Jnana Pushtim Kuru Ye Svaha.
When reciting this mantra for one’s teacher, though, Guru is generally substituted for Mama, and so the best version for this purpose is:
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Guru Ayur Punjya Jnana Pushtim Kuru Ye Soha
Then I also wanted to make one additional request. Given the illness that Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche is recovering from and also the stroke that Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche is recovering from in Australia, I wanted to request that those who have a connection with Guhyasamaja Center recite the 21 Praises to Tara at least a few times today and tomorrow dedicated to the well-being of these two great teachers! If you don’t have a copy of this prayer, it can be downloaded for free from FPMT’s website at:
You can also read about general updates regarding Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s health on FPMT’s website along with a number of prayers and mantras that have been requested for students to recite. Whatever prayers you can do in that regard will be very helpful.
Thanks very much!
