International Vesak Celebration: June 2 2013

The International Buddhist Committee of Washington, D.C. is sponsoring the 27th Annual Vesak celebration on Sunday, June 2 from 9 am to 4 pm.

You are invited to join Buddhists from temples representing many different countries and traditions as we celebrate the Birth, Enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha.

The 27th International Vesak Day’s activities include: Offerings, prayers and homages to Lord Buddha, Dharma teachings, guided meditation, cultural presentations, and more.

9:00 am Arrival
9:15 am Circumambulation
9:30 am Children’s flower offering
9:45 am Welcoming remarks
Homage to Lord Buddha in different languages
10:15 am Bestowal of the five precepts
Chanting in Pali
Recitation of the Heart Sutra in English
Morning keynote address

11:00 am Lunch for the ordained Sangha, followed by lunch for the laity
12:45 pm Group photo
1:00 pm Guided meditation

Afternoon keynote address
1:30 pm Dharma teachings
Cultural program
3:30 pm Closing ceremony and dedication of merit
