Ven. Amy Miller Teaching at Guhyasamaja Center April 15 – 19

We are very fortunate that Venerable Amy Miller is teaching at Guhyasamaja Center April 15 – 19, 2015.

What’s Love Got to Do With It? Love, Desire & Creating Meaningful Relationships
April 15, 7:30 – 9:00 pm

In this teaching, Ven. Amy focuses on our experience of, and often confusion about “love” versus “attachment.” When we lessen our attachment we are able to open to genuine love, free of the grasping of our ego. Ven. Amy will explore the difference between our usual concepts and ideas surrounding love, and the Buddhist approach which emphasizes the wish for others to be happy and encourages each one of us to take responsibility for making this happen. Clearly understanding the difference between love and attachment will greatly benefit our spiritual journey and everyday lives.

The “Lam Rim” or “Graduated Stages of the Path to Enlightenment” is a practical meditation manual describing the step-by-step process an ordinary person can undergo to transform their consciousness into that of a fully awakened one, a Buddha. In this series of teachings Ven. Amy will guide us along these steps, providing an overview of how to engage with these meditations in a way that not only fulfills our spiritual aspirations but improves the quality of our daily lives.

Ven. Amy will also lead us in the meditation practice of Green Tara, a completely enlightened Buddha who had previously promised to appear after enlightenment in the form of a female bodhisattva for the benefit of all beings. Tara is one of the most widely venerated deities in Tibet. Tara represents the miraculous activities of all Buddhas. There are innumerable manifestations of Tara arising according to the needs of others, such as the dynamic Green Tara who quickly overcomes obstacles and saves beings in dangerous situations.
