What is Love?

According to the Compendium of Knowledge, it says: “What is love? Love is a quality of mind or mental factor accompanied by a meditative stabilization and wisdom that are perfectly united abiding in the thought ‘May sentient beings encounter happiness’ in dependence on a concentration.” Moreover, compassion is that abiding in the thought ‘May all sentient beings be free from sufferings.’ Joy is that abiding in the thought ‘May sentient beings never be separated from happiness.’ Equanimity is that abiding in the thought to benefit sentient beings.
