Washington, D.C. June 9, 2016 – The Capital Area Tibetan Association (CATA) is pleased to confirm House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will offer greetings at the Dalai Lama’s Public Talk, “A Peaceful Mind in a Modern World” on Monday, June 13th at American University’s Bender Arena in Washington, D.C.
Leader Pelosi has been a decades-long steadfast friend and supporter of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetan people. In November 2015, she led a delegation of Members of Congress on a visit to Tibet.
We are equally pleased to announce that Richard Gere, Chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet, will introduce the Dalai Lama at the Public Talk. An internationally renowned actor and social activist, Mr. Gere has vigorously advocated for human rights of Tibetans and the preservation of Tibetan culture since the early eighties.
The event will take place from 1:30pm to 3pm when His Holiness will share his thoughts on “A Peaceful Mind in a Modern World.” The Dalai Lama frequently discusses material wealth and modern technology as insufficient means of cultivating genuine inner peace to overcome human suffering. Over the past four decades, he has worked tirelessly to address millions of people on the practice of compassion as a way to balance material wealth, develop wisdom and create a healthier society.
The Capital Area Tibetan Association is a non-profit organization of Tibetans in the Washington DC metropolitan area. It strives to preserve and promote the unique Tibetan Cultural tradition within the Tibetan Community and further the just cause of Tibet. The Tibetan Association is committed to the principle of non-violence and supports the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
